At very young age I began to study Chinese brush painting and drawing in Kunming, China. As a talented student I had the opportunity to receive a professional training from secondary school onward. For the love of art I have never stopped my artistic creation, even during I studied in Education Department at Beijing Normal University and worked in the Yunnan Disable People Foundation.
For the desire of my heart of the art I started my graduate study in Art Education at Capital Normal University in Beijing in 1996 and graduated in 1999, then worked in at National Institute of Education Sciences (NIES). I participated in the research and drafting of three major national arts education policies, as well as some national education research projects. In the meantime I did research on how the development of the individual visual perception influences his/her artistic expression, as well as primary and secondary school art curriculum design and teaching methods. I further explored how children's personalities, knowledge and experiences affect the development of their visual perception and artistic creation.
In early 2005, I received an invitation from Professor David Pariser to study children’s
visual perception development in Department of Art Education at Concordia University for half a year as a visiting scholar. After being exposed to visual perception research methods,
I realized that I should have more self-improvement in this field, so I began my Ph.D program at Concordia University in September 2005, and received my PhD in Art Education in June 2012.
My research mainly involve three aspects: a) A comparative study: How developments of society, economy, culture, politics, ideology and the art community influence the art education in China and Canada; b) How the cultural and natural environment influence children’s visual perception development and their artistic creation; c) The development of teaching methodology and curriculum using digital technologies, including changes of the individual visual perception, aesthetic taste and artistic creation in the culture of technology.
